The first reason is that the Battle of Stalingradmarked the end of Germany's advances into eastern Europe and Russia. The second reason is that thisbattle was the first major German loss during WorldWar II. After the Germans lost in Stalingrad, they did not advance any farther into eastern Europe or Russia.

It was important because it made Germany start falling back for the first time. That meant that in order to keep fighting the Russians, they had to redirect their resources towards the east which opened up the west for American and British intrusion which then meant that they lost as well. This was the most important step in the fall of Germany in world war 2.
