Why would Prince Metternich of Austria oppose the idea of Italian unification?

Prince Metternich of Austria considered the possibility of Italian unification incomprehensible in light of the fact that Italy had been partitioned socially and monetarily for a long time. The age of the Concert is in some cases known as the Age of Metternich, because of the impact of the Austrian chancellor's conservatism and the predominance of Austria inside the German Confederation, or as the European Restoration.

He was pro-monarchy and tradition.

Metternich was an Austrian diplomat who helped to create peace and borders after the fall of Napoleon.

After Napoleon's rule of Italy ended, the states were divided among Catholic countries. Austria took considerable control of Italy and therefore nationalism and unification of the country would reduce Austrian power. Metternich would argue Italy needed to remain under a traditional monarchy.
