The Impact theory says that the moon formed from the dust produced by a collision between earth and another large body.
According to this theory, it occured 4.5 billion years ago, with a planet called "Theia" (almost the size of Mars) colliding with the Earth. The dust and debris left (which was a mix of Earth an Theia) eventually formed the Moon.
