X=2•y+8
|X-y|=25

2Y+8-Y=25
Y=25-8=17
25+17=42

So the numbers are 17 and 42; and the larger number is 42

Answer: The larger number is 42

Explanation:

Let X be the smaller number and Y be the larger number.

According to the question , we have the following equations :

2X+8=Y.................(1)\\\\Y-X=25.....(2)

Substitute the value of Y from (1) in equation (2), we get

2X+8-X=25\\\\\Rightarrow\ X=25-8\\\\\Rightarrow\ X=17

Substitute X=17 in equation (1) , we get

Y=2(17)+8=42

Hence, the larger number is 42.
