The table below shows the role of different substances during photosynthesis.

Substance Role During Photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide Changes into oxygen in the presence of water, light, and chlorophyll
Glucose Combines with carbon dioxide to form water
Chlorophyll Traps sunlight

Which of the following statements would correct one of the roles listed in the table?

Glucose stores the chemical energy.

Carbon dioxide is formed with glucose.

Chlorophyll reacts with light to produce carbon dioxide.

The answer is glucose stores the chemical energy. Chlorophyll helps green plants to trap light energy that is used to react carbon dioxide with water to make glucose. The glucose can be converted into starch that can be converted back to glucose when the plant requires it, or can be broken down during respiration to release the energy stored in the glucose molecules.
