First we need to calculate the area of that bottom triangle using the formula: Area=ah/2
Area=4•1/2=2
In trapezoid, diagonal cuts it to two triangles with same area, so the area of the second triangle would be 2 as well

The areas of the two triangles are 1 square meter and 2 square meters.

The area of the trapezoid is 3 square meters.

In Mathematics and Geometry, the area of a triangle can be calculated by using the following mathematical equation (formula):

Area of triangle = 1/2 × b × h

Where:

  • b represent the base area.
  • h represent the height.

By substituting the given side lengths into the formula for the area of a triangle, we have the following;

Area of triangle = 1/2 × b × h

Area of triangle = 1/2 × 2 × 1

Area of triangle = 1 square meter.

Area of triangle = 1/2 × 4 × 1

Area of triangle = 2 square meters.

For the area of the trapezoid, we would add the areas of the two triangles;

Area of the trapezoid = 1 + 2

Area of the trapezoid = 3 square meters.
