Charlotte has given Ron a BIG bar of chocolate for Valentine’s day! He decides to break the bar into its individual squares to share with their family. The bar is six squares long and thirteen squares high. How many times will he have to break the bar?

The answer is 77 times.

The dimensions of the chocolate bar is 6 squares by 13 squares. If we want to get the number of squares in total we multiply it:

6 x 13 = 78 squares...

But wait! It does not end there. Remember that the last 2 pieces will only need to be broken of once and it will separate into two pieces already. So we subtract 1 from the total squares.

78-1 = 77.

The chocolate bar will be broken 77 times.
