A ratio is simply a fraction where the first term is the numerator and the second term is the denominator. For this problem, we just need to simplify the fraction of the area of the garbage patch over the area of the pacific ocean.

Doing this we'll have:

(15,000,000)/(165,000,000)= (1)/(11)

ANSWER: The ratio of the area of the Garbage Patch to the area of the Pacific Ocean is
1:11 or
(1)/(11).
