First convert 5 1/2 to improper fraction.
5 1/2= (2x5+1)/2 = (10+1)/2 = 11/2
We get
11/2 - 8/5
LCD= 2 x 5 =10
Adjust with fractions.
(5x11 - 8x2) /10
(55-16)/10
=39/10

Answer: 39/10 or In mix number form: 3 9/10
