1. A) Carthage attacked Rome. The famous Carthage general known as Hannibal launched an assault on Rome by traveling through the Swiss Alps with an army of elephants. Most died from the cold, but he successfully raided regions of Italy before being pushed back.

2. A) A dictator who only served 16 days. Cincinnatus was a famous patrician known for serving Rome as a dictator on two occasions but giving up his power when the crisis was over. He is historically true, but most of his stories are shrouded in legend.

3. C) Fought over control of Sicily. The two major powers over the Mediterranean were the Romans and Carthaginians. Carthage was a city state located in modern day Tunisia and both vied for control over the trade routes and regions over the Mediterranean. Rome successfully took control of Sicily after the first Punic war.

4. D) They went on strike. By 494 BCE, the plebeians were gradually losing both political and social influence at the hands of the landowning patricians. In protest, the Plebeians stopped paying taxes, protested, threatened to leave elsewhere. Fearing losing their working class, the Patricians gave equal rights to the Plebeians.
