This graph shows Matt's progress as he walks in the direction of Grandma's house:

Olivia walks at a rate of 2 miles per hour. Who travels at a faster rate, Matt or Olivia? How do you know this?

Hey there, and good morning to you! :D

We are given information from the graph for Matt's progress and are told that Olivia walks at a rate of 2 miles per hour.

So, we can find the rate Matt walks by seeing where he is when Time (hours)=1.

When Time (hours)= 1, the Distance (miles)=3.

We know that Matt walks at a rate of 3 miles per 1 hour.

Matt walks faster! Using the graph, we figured out that Matt walks 3 miles per hour, and we already know that Olivia walks 2 miles per hour. 3 is bigger than 2.

I hope this helps!
