Your answer will be in miles per hour
There are two ways to do this. Both use the forumula
d = v * t
Givens
=====
d = 5/9 mile
t = 1/4 hour
Method One
=========
Use your calculator to get rid of the fractions. (Likely both your teacher and your parents will hate this method, But humor me, do it).
d = 5/9 mile = 0.55555 mile
t = 1/4 hour = 0.25 hour
Calculation
========
v = d/t
v = 0.555555 / 0.25
v = 2.2222222 miles per hour.
Method Two
=========
Use the fractions.
d = 5/9 // 1/4 Invert and multiply by the denominator.
d = 5/9 * 4/1
d = 20 / 9
d = 2 2/9
