Brian has 64 water bottles for the 5K race participants. In addition, he is planning to buy some boxes of water bottles that have 14 water bottles each. All of the boxes cost the same. Brian can buy up to 5 water bottles given the amount of money he has. Let x represents the number of boxes of water bottles Brian buys. Write a function rule to describe how many water bottles Brian will have based on the number of boxes he buys. Find a reasonable range for the function.

Answer:

f(x) = 14x + 64

{64, 78, 92, 106, 120, 134}

Explanation:

0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 The domain is the number of boxes of water bottles Brian can buy.

A reasonable range for the function is {64, 78, 92, 106, 120, 134}.

Answer:

f(x) = 14x + 64

{64, 78, 92, 106, 120, 134}

Explanation:

Identify the independent and dependent variable.

Independent variable: x = number of boxes of water bottles Brian buys

Dependent variable: f(x) = the total number of water bottles

Write the function rule.

f(x) = 14x + 64 Add 64 water bottles to 14 times the number of boxes Brian buys to get the total number of water bottles.

Identify reasonable domain values.

0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 The domain is the number of boxes of water bottles Brian can buy.

Calculate f(x) for each value of x.

f (0) = 14(0) + 64 = 64

f (1) = 14(1) + 64 = 78

f (2) = 14(2) + 64 = 92

f (3) = 14(3) + 64 = 106

f (4) = 14(4) + 64 = 120

f (5) = 14(5) + 64 = 134

A reasonable range for the function is {64, 78, 92, 106, 120, 134}.
