To find out the total number of sweets you multiply the amount of sweets each child gets by the amount of children
8x30=240 - there is a total of 240 sweets
if there were 12 children and the 240 sweets had to be evenly distributed between them you would divide the total amount of sweets by the amount of children
You would do 240/12 =20
Each child would receive 20 sweets
