On December 10, 1948 UDHR was adopted by 56 members of the United Nations where the vote was unanimous although eight nations choose to abstain. UDHR was proclaimed as important document closely linked with peace, a landmark for protecting the rights and dignity of people and beginning of a system

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was created in the aftermath of World War II. As the war had exposed the evil that humans could go to when in power, several world leaders wanted to create an institution that would ensure such attrocities never happened again. This led to the formation of the United Nations.

The creation of the Declaration of Human Rights was motivated by th fact that the United Nations Charter did not properly define all the goals the UN was supposed to achieve. The goals of the Declaration is to achieve universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion.
