Although the Sunni Muslims generally liked some of the rulers since they considered them to be good Muslims, there was a lot of discontent with how the state was run. The Umayyad caliphate was considered by many to be a secular place which was disliked by the Islamic community which believed that there were too many people of different religions and that it was bad for the country and the government since many non-islamic persons held high government positions.
