During prenatal stage myelogenesis, a stage of brain development starts. It involves formation of myelin on the axon which increases the speed of impulses in the brain. Myelination is the process of coating the axon of each neuron with a fatty coating (myelin) which protects the neuron and helps it conduct signals more efficiently. Breast feeding contributes to more rapid myelination in the brain. Therefore, this plays an important role in health and function of nerve cells , the brain and the nervous system, in a developing prenatal brain.
