too be honest i don't know where the other person got 3.8 from but, 3.875 round to the nearest tenth is 3.9 .

area of square = 6 x 6 = 36
area of circle = 3.14 x 9 = 28.26

area of shaded = 1/2(36 - 28.26) = 3.87 = 3.8

answer
3.8 in^2
