Context clues are used for the unknown words in the text. It could define the meaning of a new word in the story, it could be an example of this unknown word, it could be synonym or synonyms. So that, the following example uses explanation as a context clue.

The soldier is so somnolent because he requires medication to stay awake for some time.

In this example, the word somnolent is explained with underlined words.
