A school bought 30 identical desks on sale. The original price, p, of each desk was reduced by $17. Altogether the school paid $2010 for the desks.

What linear equation models this situation? What was the original price of the desk?

Total paid equals 30 desks multiplied by (the original price minus $17).

p=original desk price

Equation: $2010= 30(p - $17)

To Solve:
2010=30(p-17)
Use distributive property to multiply
2010=(30*p) - (30*17)
2010= 30p - 510
Add 510 to both sides
2520= 30p
Divide both sides by 30
$84= p

Original desk price was $84.

Hope this helps! :)
