There are six basic classes of food, these are: carbohydrates, proteins, fats and oils, vitamins, mineral salts and water. Carbohydrate is the major class of food which produce energy but proteins and fats can also be metabolized in the body to produce energy. Vitamins does not produce energy instead they gives nutrients which are very essential for one's overall health.
