The correct answer is B. are capable of suffering.
We don't know if animals have moral agency - we cannot understand animals and the way they think or communicate with others, so we don't know if they have a moral compass. C is incorrect because animals can definitely defend themselves; and not all animals are human property, so D is also incorrect. This leaves us with B - animals can be hurt and can suffer, and that's why they should have their own rights.
