The second Title of the Patriot Act gives the government permission to engage in surveillance tactics of citizens. This, some critics say, is a violation of their right to privacy. Those who support the act say, "if you have nothing to hide, why do you care?" but critics make a valid point that it doesn't matter whether or not they have anything to hide; they have a right to privacy just the same. The fact of the matter is, however, Title II was designed to allow agencies like the FBI, DIA, and CIA to gather valuable intelligence on citizens who might be committing treason against the United States. Their hope is to prevent another 9/11.
