$2.39 * 2 (jars of peanut butter) = $ 4.78. $4.78 - $1 (discount because of the coupon when buying 2 jars of peanut butter) is equal to $3.78. Therefore, the final price of the two jars is $ 3.78.
To simply put -
($2.39 * 2) - $1 = $3.78
