the temp at noon was 88.....by 4, the temp was 72

this means that in 4 hrs, then temp fell by (88 - 72) = 16 degrees

so ur constant rate of change is : -16/4 = - 4 <== it is negative because the temp fell.....if the temp would have risen, then it would have been positive

There is 4 hours inbetween noon and 4 pm

88 - 72 = 16

Divide 16 with 4

16/4 = 4

Each hour, the temperature drops 4 degrees

hope this helps
