So you have to multiply the number of miles run per day by the number of days run.
1 3/4 miles * 5 days= 8.75 total distance in miles for the 1st week
2 1/4 miles * 4 days= 9 total distance in miles for the 2nd week
Carl ran a greater distance in week 2 (he ran 9 miles in week 2).
To determine how much greater, you need to subtract the difference of the two.
9-8.75= 0.25 miles greater
