Carol jogged 1 3/4 miles on 5 days last week. She jogged 2 1/4 miles on 4 days this week. Was her total distance greater last week or this week? How much greater? Explain

So you have to multiply the number of miles run per day by the number of days run.

1 3/4 miles * 5 days= 8.75 total distance in miles for the 1st week
2 1/4 miles * 4 days= 9 total distance in miles for the 2nd week

Carl ran a greater distance in week 2 (he ran 9 miles in week 2).

To determine how much greater, you need to subtract the difference of the two.

9-8.75= 0.25 miles greater
