one piece of rope is 60 yards long it os cut into 2 piece so that one piece is 4 timed as longrr as the other piece how long os the longer piece of rope

It would be divided into 12 and 48. The long piece would be 48 yards.

Given that one piece of rope is 60 yards long. Then it is cut into 2 piece so that one piece is 4 times as longer as the other piece.


Let length of the smaller piece of rope = x yard.

Then length of the longer piece of rope = (4x) yard. {because other piece is 4 times longer}


If we add length of both pieces then we will get total length of the rope which is 60 yard

Hence we get equation:

x + 4x = 60

5x = 60

x=60/5

x=12

Hence smaller piece is 12 yard.

But we need length of larger piece which is given by 4x

4x=4*12=48

Hence final answer is 48 yards.
