The formula c = 5p + 200 relates c, the total cost in dollars of hosting a birthday party at a skating rink, to p, the number of people attending. If Allie's parents are willing to spend $295 for a party, how many people can attend?

The number of people that can attend the party is ___.

c = 5p + 200

her folks are willing to spend 295....so c = 295....so sub in 295 for c and solve for p, the number of people that can attend

295 = 5p + 200
295 - 200 = 5p
95 = 5p
95/5 = p
19 = p <=== so 19 people can attend the party
