64 cupcakes
1/8 if for one cupcake, so u can make 8 cupcakes in one cup, since u have 8 cups, u multiply 8 and 8 and u get 64.

He has 8 cups and to make 1 cup you need 8/8 cup so 8•8 is 64 so he can make 64 cup cakes
