Describe the concept of manifest destiny ?

Manifest destiny is the belief that America should own land from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. People wanted their freedoms and rights to be distributed across (horizontally) the whole continent. It was a form of pride for their country.

The Manifest Destiny, was a justification for an American policy of expansionism westwards initially, and eventually into the Americas.

The later is the negative legacy from which some foreign policy was made.

Manifest Destiny initially expressed a belief according to which destiny of the continent should be decided only within people of the Americas.

The westward expansion turned into the almost extinction of the native tribes along the Rocky Mountains. and beyond.

Imperialist expansionist contrast to the isolationist perspective that still some people advocated back then.

As they are not contradictory, the Destiny manifest, then means occupying only in the Americas , and enabling the US to settle in the region as a consolidated power-

Having no counter rivals, soon this meant driving the US territory greater by the means of war, trade, etc

In 1845, and onwards Americans were taught to have a special role and divine right to expand westward and gain control over the continent.
