When alphabetizing a list of things, you put them in order according to the alphabet. The alphabet order is ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTYVWXYZ. Anything with an A would be first, then words that start with B, then words that start with C, and so on. If there are two words that begin with the same letter, like don't and doesn't, then you use the second letter. If these two words have the same second letter, then you use the third letter.
