Solution :

Given that, At a dog show, there is a total of 49 dogs. There are 36 more small dogs than big dogs.

Suppose x be the number of big dogs, then number of small dogs = x +36

It also been give that , Total number of dog in the show = 49

\Rightarrow Big\:dogs + small\:dogs =49\\ \\ \Rightarrow x+x+36 =49\\ \\ \Rightarrow2x+36=49\\ \\ \Rightarrow2x=49-36\\ \\ \Rightarrow 2x=13\\ \\ \Rightarrow x=(13)/(2)\\ \\ \Rightarrow x=6.5

So, number of big dogs= 6.5

Number of small dogs = 6.5+36 = 42.5

In realistic number of dogs a't be in decimal but according to question its correct.

Hence, number of big dogs=6.5 and number of small dogs 42.5.

Assuming that the big dogs are x;
then the small dogs will be x+36
Hence the total; 49
Thus, x+36+x=49
= 2x =13
x= 13/2
= 6.5
while x +36 = 42.5
But, we cant have half dogs
Therefore, we can either have 7 big dogs and 42 small dogs, or 6 big dogs and 43 small dogs.
