How did pope Paul III set out to receive the moral authority of the church and stop the spread of Protestantism

Pope Paul III led the Catholic Reformation during the 1530's and 1540's. He wanted to revive the moral authority of the Church and end corruption within the papacy. He appointed reformers to key positions to guide the Reformation. Pope Paul III set up the Council of Trent to lead the direction of the reform.
