The human rights movement refers to a non-governmental social movement engaged in activism involving resistance to racism, slavery, oppression, apartheid and any form of discrimination and violence against humans. During the 20th century the primary motivation for campaigns promoting human rights was to persuade and put pressure upon the United Nations to explicitly protect "human rights" in tis founding documents. This came as a result of World War II and The Holocaust, were more than 6 million people were murdered by the hands of Nazi Germany and its allies.
