The night after the battle with the spiders, the dwarves are captured by the Wood-elves, but Bilbo escapes by using his ring. He follows them through a strong gate into the Wood-elves' underground cavern. Where the Elvenking tell's them, "After all the disturbance you have made I have a right to know what brings you here." When they refuse, he imprisons them them individually until they have learned "sense and manners"

Bilbo's experience with the wood-elves was different, very different, than the experience with the Elves are Rivendell
While Biblo was still frightened with the Rivendell Elves' because he's never been away from home, he was actually in danger with the Wood-elves. He wandered around the palace, lonely and scared and until he found the Wood-elves trade and found a key too get himself out of the Wood-elves trade and underground.
