There are a total of 127 cars and trucks in a lot. If there are four more than twice the number of trucks than cars, how many cars and trucks are on the lot?

c + t = 127
c = 2t + 4

Substitute 2t + 4 for c.

(2t + 4) + t = 127

3t + 4 = 127

3t = 123

t = 41

c = 2(41) + 4 = 86

Answer: 86 cars and 41 trucks.
