any business venture is undertaken when gross output far outweighs immediate input

the free labor of slaves at the minimal cost of a little food and shelter made them ideal for the growth of the colonies in the South. Growth of enterprise is premeditated upon growth in population that are potential customers. Hence agricultural innovation was imminently necessary. The mercantilist policies weighed the ignorance of the despots in west, south and east africa who sold off the best of their men and women for shells on the beach (sometimes even literally) against the output that slave labor will have and DID have. Human factories of labor replacing the inefficient and expensive oxen on the field and horses for transport and the doings of chores around the house and the production of food so that the higher profitability about trade back home in Europe could do wonders. spend the food to europe that we got essentially for free and get paid for it handsomely. no wonder it was one of the most efficient and profitable economies to ever exist.

Unfortunately during these times, slavery was a big thing for people in the south of the United States. In the south, slaves were forced to do agriculture all the time. In the north, there werent many slaves so the south and north would fight all the time. This meant that the amount of crops were high in the south, so the possible explanation can be that agriculture grew due to slavery during this time. (It grew because the slaves were forced into the agriculture labor which meant the agriculture numbers were higher in the south during these years.) I really hoped this helped you understand a bit.
