Well, let's take this question by each sentence

Gia's bus route from home to school =
5(1)/(2) miles

Gia's bus route from school to home is
1(3)/(5) times as long

here 'as long' means the route from home to school mentioned earlier

that is
5(1)/(2)

so
1(3)/(5) times as long means

1(3)/(5) times
5(1)/(2)

=
1(3)/(5) X
5(1)/(2)

It is easier to multiply when we have our fractions in the proper form

=
((1X5) +3)/(5) X ((5X2)+1)/(2)

=
(8)/(5) X (11)/(2)

=
(8X11)/(5X2)

=
(88)/(10)

lets simplify this fraction to the mixed form

=
(80)/(10) + (8)/(10)

This simplifies to

8+ (4)/(5)

or
8 (4)/(5)

Hence Gia's route from school to home is
8 (4)/(5) miles
