The term Hispanic as defined by the U.S. federal government refers to anyone who is of South American, Central American, Cuban, Mexican or Puerto Rican origin. Previously the term Hispanic referred only to people from Spain, but in the recent times, its broadened to refer to individuals from Spanish speaking countries in Latin America.
