Half of Sarah's wire is equal to ⅖ of Daniel's. Chris has 3 times as much as Sarah. In all, their wire measures 6 ft. How long is Sarah's wire in feet?​

Let s, d, c represent the numbers of feet of wire held by Sarah, Daniel, and Chris, respectively.

1/2s = 2/5d . . . . . . half of Sarah's is 2/5 of Daniel's

c = 3s . . . . . . . . . . .Chris has 3 times as much as Sarah

s + d + c = 6 . . . . . in all, they have 6 feet

Multiplying the first equation by 5/2, we find ...

d = 5/4s

Substituting for d and c in the last equation gives ...

s + 5/4s +3s = 6

s(21/4) = 6

s = 6(4/21) = 24/21 = 8/7
