One drainage basin is separated from a neighboring drainage basin by a divide. A divide is like a boundary that separates one drainage basin from another drainage basin. This division is necessary as it will help people to segregate their drainage system and they can take care of their own drainage basin.

separated by divide. divide is a raised boundary that separates basins fed by different rivers. river flowing on one side of the divide empties its water into one of the basin whereas river flowing on the other side drains its water into another body. divides differ in size and they may range from a small rise on the land to crest of mountain.
