The Cherokee nation is composed of the descendants of the Cherokee Freedman and as well as the Natchez Nation. Comparing the Cherokee nation of John Ridge’s youth to that of 1805 that threaten his people, it could be seen or described that the Americans wanted what the Cherokee homeland had left.

In John Ridge's youth, the Cherokee nation was in constant threat, but better off than it was in 1805. In 1805 the Cherokee nation was on its knees with a dwindling population. Forces that threatened his people were Americans wanting what was left of the Cherokees land.
