m=(-17-(-1))/(5-1) \\\\m=(-16)/(4) \\\\m=(-4)/(1) \\\\m=-4

now substitute with one of the points

y=mx+b

-1=-4+b

+4 +4

3=b

now you have both m and b

y=-4x+3
