Insects have external openings on their bodies called spiracles. These spiracles convey oxygen to an intricate network of trachea that expand and compress to equalize pressure throughout the body of the insect.

the tracheal system insect do not inhale air through the nostrils or mouth like human beings do. the air gets into the respiratory system through the spiracle located on their abdomen. the spiracles leads to a dense network of tubes tracheae which further branch into more fine tubes called tracheoles. when air enters body through spiracles it is directed to tracheae which in turn delivers air to the tracheoles and finally to cells.
