The answer is D: independent clause

The phrase This is a battle is an independent clause because it has a subject (This) tha tells the reader what the sentence is about; a predicate/action (is a battle) that tells the reader about the subject/what it is doing, and it has a complete thought, which makes it possible for it to stand on its own. A, B and C are types of subordinate clause.
