try to find the area if you add another triangle the same size to make a rectangle. The formula for a triangle is: A=(lxh) divided by 2.

Use the pythagorean theorem
a = 12
b = 5
c = unknown
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
12^2+5^2 = c^2
144 + 25 = c^2
169 = c^2
c^2 = 169
c = sqrt(169)
c =
13
The hypotenuse of the right triangle is 13 units
