How can 1/5x − 2 = 1/3x + 8 be set up as a system of equations?

5y − 5x = −10
3y − 3x = 24

5y − 5x = −10
3y + 3x = 24

5y + x = −10
3y + x = 24

5y − x = −10
3y − x = 24

1/5x − 2 = 1/3x + 8 would be better writtetn as (1/5)x − 2 = (1/3)x + 8, because doing so makes it clearer what the coefficients of x are.

Create two functions from (1/5)x − 2 = (1/3)x + 8L

y = (1/5)x − 2
y = (1/3)x + 8

Now let's eliminate the fractinal coefficients:

Mult. the first eq'n by 5, and then mult. the second by 3.

First result: 5y = x - 10. Now you do the second equation.
