When the HMS Leopard, a British warship, fired on the USS Chesapeake frigate which was an American ship. The British were looking for deserters from the Royal Navy.

The
Embargo Act of 1807
enraged Americans. It hit U.S farmers pretty hard because restrictions were put on imports from from Great Britain.
