An equation that would help is:
(4 + x) + x = 22
First subtract 4 from each side:
2x = 18
Divide each side by 2:
x = 9
Gabriel is 9, and since dan is 4 years older he is 13. Hope this helps!

(4+x)+x=22
= 4+2x=22
= 2x = 18
= x = 9.
Gabriel is 9 years old, and Dan is 4 + 9 or 13 years old.
