What can nonprinting characters tell you?

They can tell you how text is formatted. In word processing applications such as Word, you can use the tab button to indent a line, enter to start a new paragraph, or Ctrl-enter for a page break. These characters do not display like letters, numbers, or symbols. Instead they change how text is seen.
